Muhle Purist 091H55 Karelian Masur Birch Silvertip Badger Shaving Brush

As part of our Classic Range, PURIST concentrates on the art of the essential; dispensing of all that is superfluous. This series is characterized by its gently rounded handles and a broadly shaped neck. 

One of the most distinctive and rare materials, Karelian Masur Birch is grown in a small area of Karelia during the mid-winter season. Harvested only when the ground is frozen, the harsh climatic conditions result in the low growth height of the Masur Birch which, in turn, produces the wood’s characteristically rich grain.

Once picked, the square timbers are then shaped by turning. Only the finest quality Masur Birch is then further processed and stabilized during a special procedure. This procedure ensures the wood becomes hard-wearing and water-resistant.

The use of natural material ensures that each product is unique, the handle’s graining adding individual character to each brush, razor, and set.

Silvertip Badger

Natural, soft, and flexible; only the best, carefully selected badger hair is used to create these handcrafted shaving brushes.

Silvertip badger hair represents the finest, softest and rarest quality of badger hair available. The hair is renowned for its ability to retain large amounts of water, enabling the brush to quickly produce a dense, stable, and creamy lather.

Manufactured using historical tools, the semi-circular shape of the brush is created by hand when binding. The fine tips of the hair, therefore, do not require trimming and the natural softness of the hair is retained. This artisan procedure is mastered by only a few specialists worldwide, the quality of work evident in the even black band running through the predominantly silver brush head.
