The Merkur shaves smooth as silk. I found it comfortably mild and efficient.
Merkur must be German for moderate. No crack on quality though, this is a well made item. My beard is pretty tough. I had to find a more aggressive razor and I was hoping this would be the one. I tried adjusting the angle and different blades and I never quite achieved a close shave, on my face. I did develop a bumpy chin from so many passes. I thought I would have to relegate this well made device to an adornment. I realized I had not tried it on my head. I never use the same razor for both. I loaded it with a Bolzano blade and had a really good head shave. This is the one but not for my face. I do believe this would be an excellent razor for someone with light to moderate beard coarseness. Grown man shave had this at the best price I had seen for this razor.
