Compared to the 23c closed comb long handle, the Merkur 25c safety razor is somewhat more aggressive. The Merkur 25C straight bar with open comb element vs the 23c's closed comb head offers the same traditional Merkur razor however tailored for a more aggressive wet shaving experience.
The open comb combination with open teeth is one of the most popular features for those with thick or heavy beards. These teeth help to guide and position the hairs of the beard closer to the razor blade, so they can be cut more efficiently on the first pass without clogging up the razor. MATERIAL
The straight bar fixed blade head of the Merkur 25c safety razor is manufactured using a zinc die-casting process for maximum precision, control and balance finished in classic chrome. The chrome finish preserves the razor from corrosion and emphasizes the high-quality design. The extra-long handle contains a brass body for precise weight distribution finished with traditional knurling.

The Merkur shaves smooth as silk. I found it comfortably mild and efficient.
Merkur must be German for moderate. No crack on quality though, this is a well made item. My beard is pretty tough. I had to find a more aggressive razor and I was hoping this would be the one. I tried adjusting the angle and different blades and I never quite achieved a close shave, on my face. I did develop a bumpy chin from so many passes. I thought I would have to relegate this well made device to an adornment. I realized I had not tried it on my head. I never use the same razor for both. I loaded it with a Bolzano blade and had a really good head shave. This is the one but not for my face. I do believe this would be an excellent razor for someone with light to moderate beard coarseness. Grown man shave had this at the best price I had seen for this razor.
I highly recommend the Merkur 37C Heavy Duty Slant Chrome Safety Razor and Grownman Shave Co. The customer service is top notch.
