The Feather double edge safety razor is made in japan by the Feather Safety Razor Co. of Osaka, one of Japan's oldest producers of legendary double edge razors and extremely sharp razor blades and precision cutlery for over 80 years. The history of the Feather double edge razor is what genuinely makes their DE razors a legend...
The Feather Safety Razor Company was founded in 1932 as the “Japan Safety Razor Company" and manufactured in Seki City “ The City of Cutlery”. The mythology of their DE razor and double edge blades is one of two historical accounts. According to the Kamisori Club overview by Mr. Fukusaburo Tanuma of the book “History and Culture of Shaving in Japan” written by Mr.Yasuoki Takeuchi, president of Sanpo Shoji K.K. ( Sanpo Trading Co., Ltd.) a distributor of shaving razors and household cutlery; Feather was initially founded by two German World War I POWs who remained in Japan after their liberation, later succeeded by Nihon Anzen Kamisori Kyogyo K.K. ( Japan Safety Razor Industries, Feather Anzen Kamisori K.K.- Feather Safety Razor Company). The second historical account is attributed to a man named Toshio Kosaka, who started the company with assistance from cutlery creators in Japan. While both historical accounts may be true, in Japan it is extremely difficult even today for foreigners to possess businesses. Toshio Kosaka was conceivably the Japanese representative for the Germans.
Until 1912 Japan mainly used straight razors or open razors. After World War I the Gillette T-Shape razors were imported gradually replaced the open razors. Feather once dominated the regional market and fell victim (like most wet shaving manufacturers) to the disposable cartridge razor market. Today the Popularity of the Feather safety razor, Japan's best safety razor, and disposable blades are in a resurgence among wet shave enthusiasts and delivering high satisfaction worldwide, befittingly.
Feather blades and the Feather double edge safety razors honor the timeless and legendary artisanship of Japanese craftsmen, offering a smooth shave and an all around great shave paired with their superior quality high carbon razor head and stainless steel razors. Perfect for anyone with sensitive skin and looking for a close shave and a razor head that holds a sharp blade with zero variation and doesn't want to concentrate on the blade angle at all.
